Meet Max! He is a sweet energetic English Setter. Max took a long trip from Serbia to find his forever home here in the States.
When he first arrived at his foster home, he had never seen his reflection in a glass door and had only rarely been expected to walk on a leash. He has come a long way since his arrival, and he has now settled in. The glass door no longer worries him, and he is excited to go out on a leash and take walks with his foster Mom. In fact, he is so thrilled that he will spin circles and dance around you on the walk. He loves to explore the outdoors.
Max is a fun loving 4-year-old high energy boy who loves to be outside. He gets the zoomies regularly, so he would benefit from a big fenced in yard. He has discovered toys and the joy of playing with his rubber ball. Since his foster mom does not have a fenced yard, he plays ball inside the house; he retrieves and returns it but is sometimes a little playful in giving it back! He would adore having a big fenced yard to play ball and run in. Max would also be thrilled to have a canine playmate outside. He regularly tries to engage his foster brother in play, but his foster brother is not interested.
Max is crate trained and stays crated while his foster mom is gone to work. He tends to bark for a short time when first crated, but quickly settles down after a few minutes and relaxes. At night, he sleeps on a dog bed in her bedroom. Max is doing well with potty training and only has accidents when his foster mom misses his signals and he is not taken out as needed.
Max is very accepting of new people, kids and dogs. He does well when he encounters other dogs on his walks. Max loves making friends! He has not been around cats in his foster home, but in Serbia, we are told that he ignored the outdoor cats. He also ignores rabbits and squirrels on walks with his foster mom.
Max is treat-motivated and has been working on commands. He knows Sit and is learning Stay. If you tell him to go in his crate, he will go right in, but he expects his treat treats right away!
Max loves to be close to his people. He does great riding in the car. His foster mom uses a safety belt in the back seat. Max’s foster mom lives in an area where people often use golf carts to get around town for errands, and he loves riding on the golfcart! He sits right next to her. He is a very loving, happy boy.
A home with a fenced yard and another friendly dog he can play with would be ideal. While he hasn’t tried them yet, Max might enjoy activities like going to a dog park, agility classes, or hikes with his favorite people. Max is a beautiful, sweet and energetic boy who will make a wonderful companion and will make a great family pet!
If you are an active household that is looking for a companion who will love you forever, please apply for Max!
